New Jersey Symphony: Moonrise: A Celestial Celebration

In honor of Museum of the Moon landing at Union County Performing Arts Center’s Main Stage, the New Jersey Symphony presents a captivating evening of orchestral music celebrating our celestial neighbor.
From orchestral masterworks like Claude Debussy’s “Claire de Lune” and Jessie Montgomery’s “Starburst” to popular favorites like Glenn Miller’s “Moonlight Serenade” and music from “Moonstruck” and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” this program, conducted by New Jersey Symphony Colton Conducting Fellow Gregory D. McDaniel, has something for everyone!

Moonlit Market

Wander through this lantern-lit market of artisan craft and artist-made goods after sunset. As the moon rises, local vendors show and sell their wares under festively lit tents. Tap your toes to cosmic beats spun by the Moonlit Market’s DJ while taking in the range of unique offerings.

SING (Digital Presentation)

Like the Moon Theater in “Sing”, UCPAC’s Main Stage is a historic theater where families have enjoyed entertainment together since the 1920s. Come make new memories with your loved ones or relive your own when our theater becomes the Moon Theater for one night only! Come sing karaoke in our café and enjoy other immersive surprises during this very special presentation of “Sing!”

Dance · Moon Presented by the Chinese Culture and Arts Association

Inspired by the ethereal beauty of Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon, Dance · Moon is a poetic tribute to the moon’s quiet majesty and its timeless presence — transcending generations, cultures, and words.
This original gala interweaves classical and ethnic dance traditions — from the flowing elegance of Han dance and the grounded strength of Tibetan movement to the sweeping vitality of Mongolian rhythm and other rich cultural expressions. Each performance embodies a different phase of moonlight: gentle, radiant, mysterious, and eternal.
Through the universal language of movement, Dance · Moon invites audiences of all backgrounds to share in a night of wonder, longing, and reunion beneath the moon — where tradition meets contemporary artistry.

Ada Twist, Scientist & Friends

A fun musical based on the books “Rosie Revere, Engineer;” “Iggy Peck, Architect;” and “Ada Twist, Scientist” by Andrea Beaty, which spotlight the STEM curriculum (focusing on science, technology, engineering and math). Come when doors open at 1 PM to make a free Earth Science craft and receive a free Moon Festival coloring book to take home!

Rusalka
New Jersey Opera Theater

Dvořák’s Rusalka is a haunting fairy tale opera about a water nymph who sacrifices everything to become human and pursue love, only to face heartbreaking consequences. Featuring the famous aria “Song to the Moon,” this dramatic retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is presented by New Jersey Opera Theater, under the direction of Rahway’s own Joseph Mayon. In partnership with UCPAC, the company blends world-class talent with community mentorship, offering students a chance to perform alongside seasoned professionals.

Goodnight, Moon: Tales for Tiny Astronauts

It’s not goodbye, it’s just good night! On the last day of the Festival, join us for story time with classic books that feature the moon, under the moon! Our readers are scheduled to include local actors, elected officials, and other community leaders.
Images from the books will be projected onto our screen, so everyone can follow along. Attendees will receive a free coloring book to take home as a souvenir of their trip to the moon! Admission is free; registration is required.
